Building A Makeup Collection On A Budget

Makeup from a slightly twisted view is like wine, the better it gets; the more expensive it becomes. If you want the best, then a good makeup investment plan must be part of your plan. The trick is to make sure that you are getting the best out of your coins. The first rule being that: never buy or attempt using fake products flooding these Harare streets. It will do more damage than good. The human skin is sensitive and most cheap fake products are made with the aim of cutting cost, not to necessarily protect your skin.

After you have received that monthly salary message from your bank, you might find yourself with too many things to do on a small budget. Bills, groceries, you name it. Before you know it, the money is all gone and you postpone buying your favorite lipstick to next month. The same thing happens the following month and this becomes a cycle. Not to worry, today you will get to find out a solution and a way to build a healthy makeup collection.

Start Small

As a fashion blogger, I constantly find myself browsing through YouTube beauty channels for research on what’s trending and what not to try. Throughout the years, I have come to the realization that you don’t need to own everything that is introduced on the market, only the essentials. A professional makeup artist can afford to have a suitcase filled with so many products because they have a pool of clients to cater to. What works for one client, might not make sense to the next.

How small should you start? All this depends on your budget. Say makeup brushes for instance, you don’t need to buy a full set of 10/15 brushes at one go. A good set of makeup brushes will cost you anything above $30. However, for a start, you won’t need all the 15 brushes. Instead buy the brushes separately depending on your specific needs. If you need one to apply concealer, then all you need is need is a concealer brush. Same as the powder brush or anything else in between.  That way you get to save the money for something else.

Get The Necessities

What are the basic necessities when it comes to makeup? The list is quite short depending on your specific needs. Generally the list will consist of foundation, powder, concealer, eyeliner and a few good brushes. This also will depend on your makeup skills.

Your makeup collection should therefore consist of things that you really need not what you saw on YouTube. Imagine spending $50 on a contour kit that you can’t even use? How about instead, you get a bottle of setting spray or a good eye shadow kit that you can actually use on a daily basis? If you have no idea what you need as part of basic makeup items, go for a free trial at your closest cosmetic counter and pay close attention to what the makeup artist will use on your face. Chances are the products and tools used are all you will ever need.

Buy From a trusted Retailer

Imitation when it comes to makeup products is the worst kind of inconvenience. Imagine spotting your favorite foundation downtown going for half the price you spotted it up town. Exciting right? You may even find yourself contemplating whether to buy it or not. Please don’t. Chances of that foundation being the most damaging and toxic thing you have ever applied to your skin are very high.

For most makeup products, they have a chain of trusted certified retailers who sell their products. If the product is original, then the retailer should be able to provide verification. Look for the correct seal and make sure you are getting the original item. Getting the wrong thing might lead you to your dermatologist’s doorstep, costing you even more in the long run.

Double the task

There are some products that will help you achieve more than one thing with the same product. Say for example the lip liner. The lip liner was made to be used as a definer to your lips. It is used normally to provide that pop and a more defined lip.

Instead of just using it to draw the lip line, it can be used as a lipstick. Apply it across both the lips and you may still get that matte finish you have been dying for. For a glossy look, you may apply a bit of Vaseline or a tiny bit of your favorite lip gloss. Two birds with one stone. You can definitely try this while you wait for your favorite matte lipstick. Double the achievement.

As you try and figure out what will work best for you and your pocket, remember Rome was not build in a day. Enjoy the makeup experience and get the best of your budget.
