The 2015 edition of the Zimbabwe Fashion Week (ZFW) kick started yesterday at the Palm Estate in Harare. This year’s show is being run under the theme “Fashion Redefined.” For many years, Fashion has looked to dominant culture for inspiration. For most Zimbabweans and other countries in Africa, inspiration is drawn from the western music, sports, movies etc.
This year, ZFW is redefining fashion by looking to and focusing on forgotten tribes around the world. Each of these tribes employs their own unique fashion technique utilizing natural elements around them to create uniquely crafted garments.
Yesterday after work, I rushed to the palm estate to catch up with the shows and meet some of the industry people. My highlight for the evening was the Gems of Dune collection by Natsai Mujuru. Take a look at some of her designs which wowed the audience at the event yesterday.
If you are in Zimbabwe and you would like a chance to attend the show, tickets are still available for the upcoming show. You can get yours at Mugg & Bean Sam Levy’s and News Cafe also at Sam Levy’s.
